5 Design Flaws - I mean enhancement opportunities!

There are design issues with the social site offering that give the appearance of the site is not working correctly. I’m hoping that other webmasters can respond if they agree. I’m praying that SocialGO resolves these issues.

1. Allow date format change option

  • Currently: 15th February 2010 08:00AM
  • Proposed: February 15, 2010 08:00AM

This date formatting can apply to the event calendar selection, RSS news/forum, and anywhere else on the site. I’m in the US and my site visitors think I’m dyslexic.

2. Treat words as separate links in Popular Tags

If a video is assigned multiple tags the words are treated like one single word in the Popular Tags area. Say I assigned the tags to one video “Dog, Cat, Parties”, we’ll those words are listed in Popular Tags. When a user selects Dog, the system selects Cat and Parties words as well. Please allow the system to respond and list videos that have the word Dog irrelevant of other words.

3. Expand Search Results

Results should include the video descriptions in the results as well. Currently it seems to search using words found in group titles. Did I miss some setting option here?

4. Need a date range, not just a date start in the event section.

Events like conferences, meetings and seminars can last two more of more days. We need a start and end date.

5. Allow the option for more help and/or a link to another page not to feedback.

In the Quick Help area the right side has an arrow that reads “More Help” and it goes to the feedback page. Allow an option to go to an FAQ page or some custom page before sending website visitors to the webmasters.

BONUS DESIGN CORRECTION

6. The word "Network" to the website visitor is misleading on the feedback page and other areas.

My website visitors do not know that the site is a network.

Words you can use or give me the option to change:

  • Contact Network Administrator <Contact Site Administrator
  • Get in touch with the owner of this network for compliments and complaints. <site publisher
  • The video tab allows you to browse all the videos available on the network.<Website

I’m sure SocailGO is trying to accommodate a world wide audience and conveying the idea that some sites have multiple connected sites.

The help drop down text can be customized. The more help link can be hidden with css.


To change the text go to the page in the admin and click edit page then in the help meta section you can customize the text.

all language on site can be edited via the language editor in the side bar of admin.

Thanks for the time you took to provide us with all the feedback - much appreciated! I can let you know that:

1. We are working to provide a North American date format option. You will definitely see this in the not too distant future.

2. Great idea, I shall place this one on the report so others are aware.

3. Agreed. It should include video descriptions when entering search criteria. However, if you're using the general Search feature on the main page, this should search most of the site - not just the titles of Groups. If this problem exists and persists please write support@socialgo.com directly so we can ticket it, track it, and fix it.

4. Much requested feature and one that you will likely see not too long from now.
