      SocialGO launches the Widget Store!

Published by: Tom on Tuesday 12th May 2009 12:05pm

SocialGO is pleased to announce the release of the much-anticipated Widget Store.

Watch the following demonstration video (6 mins)

The team has been busy developing the new SocialGO Widget Store which is now available in your network admin center. The Store allows you to browse and add a variety of free and paid widgets to Premium SocialGO networks. Each widget adds additional native functionality instantly like video chat, games, visitor maps and more!

Because widgets are integrated at the platform level, rather than through Open-Social, they become true “white-label” features of a site. Their integrated nature improves the user experiance to bring value and uniqueness to each site compared with typical external widget offerings which look disjointed and out of place and typically inconsistant with a network's overall look and feel.

Check out WidgetLaboratory, our first official third-party widget supplier for more info on their existing and upcoming widgets.

The Widget Store works with SocialGO’s advanced Layout Manager, which we launched last month. The Layout Manager allows you to drag and drop any element of your network and now allows you to place and configure your selected widgets.

The Widget Store will continue to increase the range of modules that can be dragged into your network and is the latest step in creating a flexible, rich platform for building social websites in minutes.

Every widget is different, ranging from the professional to the silly, but all always designed to increase the engagement of your network. The widget store will be playing a central role in the future development of SocialGO as the widgets grow and improve and you guys give us feedback on what widgets you would like to be developed.

We would also like to invite you to an online workshop this Thursday, 14th May, where we will introduce the Widget Store. Please visit the 'Workshops' tab on the SocialGO Owners' Network to learn more and answer any questions you may have.

      SocialGO Launches Layout Manager

SocialGO would like to announce the launch of the 'Layout Manager', giving anyone and everyone developer-like customization opportunities without writing a single line of code!

SocialGO.com has now launched it's eagerly awaited 'Layout Manager'. This powerful new feature combines infinite customization possibilities with drag and drop simplicity. It also eliminates the need for any special programming skills, allowing virtually anyone to build an advanced and unique social network with no prior experience.

SocialGO founder Alex Halliday said, “Social Networking has become a part of most people’s daily lives. This has created an ever-increasing interest in hosted solutions by groups who wish to operate their own dedicated network, rather than being part of one of the larger general networks.

Since every niche wants a unique look and feel, features and rules, our Layout Manager allows for infinite customization, without the need to hire an expensive developer or designer. This is a tremendous advantage over other hosted solutions, most of which simply provide a ‘one look fits all’ template, rather than delivering power and control into the hands of the network creator.”

      How Layout Manager Works

The Layout Manager (see below) using simple "point & click" allows you to break every page in your site down into nine distinct "Zones" that can be moved, deleted, modified or added to. Each Zone can be broken down into one column, two column or three column and you can vary the width of each column.

      Zones

Each Zone can be broken down into one column, two column or three column and you can vary the width of each column.

      Resize columns

Within each Zone, you can drag and drop various modules, including HTML, CSS, Javascript, I-Frame, Feature Elements, and 3rd Party Widgets.

      Drag

Layout Manager allows you to create an unlimited number of additional custom pages within your SocialGO network site, plus unlimited sub-pages. Each of these pages can be set to varying degrees of visibility between the public, logged-in members, paid subscribers, or moderators. And finally every page and sub-page can be renamed and re-ordered as you wish.

Layout Manager is available on SocialGO Premium and Concierge Plans.
You'll find the Layout Manager in your Admin Centre at http://my.socialgo.com by simply clicking on the 'Layout Manager' block.

If you are on the SocialGO FREE or Starter Packages and would like to use the Layout Manager, simply go to your admin Centre at http://my.socialgo.com and click the 'Change My Plan' option, from where you'll be able to upgrade to the Premium Plan from just $24.99 per month.

Published by: Tom on Tuesday 27th January 2009 12:01pm
      1. Purchase a domain name. Make sure you have registered the domain name with a registrar that offers custom DNS services.

      2. Every domain registrar is different in the way they are laid out, but, all will have a field for the following information, which you need to enter in to the relevant fields when logged in your domain registrar's website:

For your domain, you need the A name (e.g. yourdomainname.com) pointing to 92.60.117.57

You need the www CNAME pointing to yourdomainname.com (type in the domain name there without the w’s)

In tabular form for yourdomainname.com it’ll look like:

      yourdomainname.com A 92.60.117.57
      www CNAME yourdomainname.com

      3. Once you have changed your settings, go to your SocialGO admin center and click on 'Network details'

      4. Enter the name of the domain you have purchased in to the domain field.

      5. Hit 'Save changes' at the bottom of the page

      Pic

      6. Wait. Domain changes may take up to 72 hours to take effect.

      7. You can check the status of your domain by clicking the button labelled 'Check domain'

      8. If the domain is set up correctly, you will get this message:

If you do not see the above message, then please check you have entered all of the data correctly, or contact your domain registrar.
