TimeZone - Upgrades

Published by: StarD0g on Thursday 30th October 2008

Hi there :)

For the last few weeks there have been complaints of blogs not showing in the Magazine and Magazine Categories; after some investigation it was found that the problem was related to the way in which the system was handling TimeZone information.

After the investigation, some time was spent fixing the timezone system to allow for greater control by network owners and by the network users themselves.

The Upgrades are as follows

  1. Network Owners can set the default timezone for their networks in http://my.socialgo.com: This will be the default timezone that the user is given should the have an invalid country selection - Otherwise the Country selected defines the Timezone.
  2. When a New User signs up; the system now approximates the timezone based on the country selected. (The US like Australia and Russia are all fairly large *cough*, so New York is the default TZ in the states and the same for the larger continents as defined by the ISO2 standards)
  3. Blogs Publish Date; will now default to the actual time in your personally selected Timezone.
  4. The User is able to select their personal TimeZone from their "My Location" section, this then directly affects what they can and cant see in the magazine.  Unfortunately this was causing too much confusion and potential for confusion; and thus was removed. By default, the network now uses the TimeZone that is defined by the owner in the admin system.

If you have any questions; please feel free to post them in the forum here at owners or on http://getsatisfaction.com/socialgo. and rather not PM me, that way we can deal with your questions in the open and thereby helping other Network Owners.

Regards

Ross C

Hello everyone. In the past 48 hours the service has experienced an unprecedented increase in traffic which has caused quite a few problems for network owners and users alike. We are working to resolve the upload image and photos issue which is the main problem at the moment.

In addition, we are upgrading our server infrastructure in the next few days to provide us with greater bandwidth.

Again, I would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to your networks and your members. We are working round the clock to resolve the situation so stay tuned here for more updates.

We are working on it....

Published by: Alex H on Sunday 7th December 2008

Hello everyone,

As you may have noticed some of the networks are having speed and image loading problems. This is due to the massive number of new networks created in the past week.

Let me assure you that we are working very hard to get things back to the way you expect them. Please bear with us for the next few days while we optimize the service and you can expect to see improvements soon.

I will post updates here as they happen. Thank you very much in advance for your patience.

Cheers
Alex

New Admin Center and Member Billing are here!!

Published by: Tom on Wednesday 26th November 2008

The long awaited new Admin Center has arrived featuring the new SocialGO member billing tool. We’ve had a great response since it quietly went live last week, so many thanks for those of you who have been in touch.

With member billing, you can charge members regular or one off subscription fees, in Pounds Sterling, US Dollars, or Euros. These payments can be required, or optional - it’s all controlled by you, the network owner!

Tuesday Update

Published by: Alex H on Tuesday 9th December 2008

Hopefully things should now be running a lot quicker for all networks and problems such as partial image uploads and failed transfers should be fixed.

Two major infrastructure upgrades will be happening in the next 48 hours which will help things further including an upgrade of our core internet pipe to make the service far more responsive during peak times.

Again, i appreciate everyones patience over the past couple of days.
