Monday Update

Published by: Alex H on Monday 15th December 2008

We continue to make good progress in increasing platform speed. New servers are about 2 weeks away, and we are preparing a major code update coming in the next day or so which will greatly optimize the platform. You should already have seen an improvement in page load times and hopefully this will continue to get better in the coming days.

Thanks goes to all you guys for your patience. The amazing uptake of the service will be good for everyone in the long term and we have an exciting 6 months ahead of us.

Yesterday you may have had some network speed problems for a few hours.  This was the result of some server optimsation work we are doing.  We now have the speeds back up and apologise for the temporary inconvenience.  So that we can continue to improve speed and handle the huge increase in traffic we will continue doing optimisation work over the coming week while we wait for all of our shiny new servers to arrive.  Thanks

Hi guys,

We have pushed an additional update today which optimizes the core system but also updates the following:

  • Updates to the member rating system which allows for people to rate videos on your network.
  • The homepage notification XML feed is now compliant.
  • Custom avatars have been improved. To replace our custom avatars with your own, simply upload a photo to the Custom Avatar folder. One or more photos in that folder and none of ours will show.
  • You can now message multiple members using a lovely autocomplete feature.
  • Photos can now be deleted inline.
  • The invite friends list has been redesigned with some lovely Ajaxy goodness.

Temporary Uploads Limits While New Servers Arrive

Published by: Alex H on Friday 12th December 2008

Over the past week we have seen a huge increase in traffic and other than a few bumps we have coped reasonably well with the increase.  Never-the-less we have decided to put in place a tonne of new servers so we can cope with any further traffic increases.  We expect these new servers to be in place within the next 10 days.  While we commission these servers we have put in place some temporary media uploading limts to preserve network speeds and avoid any downtime during the change over.  We will review this situation in 10 days time with the view to removing the limits.  Limits per network will be as follows.

  • 5 videos per user
  • 50 videos per owner
  • 50 photos per user
  • 300 photos per owner
  • 3 music files per user
  • 10 music files per owner
